We got this set because of size for value. But from experience with the more current Magformers, I think they've refined the magnets somewhat. These don't piece together quite so smoothly -- you are more aware of directionality, and that some sides just don't connect directly. And for example the 'lift up' creations just don't work because of the magnet directionality. That said, we still have a lot of fun with these. For people considering a purchase of this sort of product I'd recommend looking at Magnatiles -- they just fit together better.
