You control a tribe of amoebas living in Earth's past trying to survive in the Primordial Soup. At first, your amoebas drift along, eating the nutrients that are available, but soon you'll have to figure out how to get to the rapidly depleting supply of nutrients before your opponent's amoebas beat you to it. You will purchase rule-breaking Gene cards to give your amoeba capabilities to be the top dog in the Soup. Some of these capabilities include more coordinated movement, longevity, aggression, etc. The player who keeps his amoebas alive and balances the use of his or her Gene cards will reign in the Soup. Primordial Soup: Freshly Spiced Expansion Review

Since we are a family of five I got the "Freshly Spiced" expansion along with the base game because it allows up to six players. The expansion also includes a new genes that can be added in with the original game genes. There are also new cards to be used for 5 - 6 player games that are marked as such. The rules also change slightly for 5 - 6 players. The set is designed so that you can pick and choose which of the new genes you want to add to the original set. Some of the new genes are really cool and others not so much. I would reccommend this expansion to owners of the original game who would like to spice it up a little, but it is not essential if you aren't interested in doing a 5 - 6 player game.
