Diamond Select Toys Marvel Minimates 2010 SDCC San Diego Comic Con Exclusive 4Pack Rob Leifelds XForce Review

This set is obviously catered towards fans of the original X-Force and the days of Rob Liefeld's... unique brand of artwork. These figures do a pretty good job of capturing that look, even if they suffer from the same general faults most of these convention-exclusive sets do.

The character selection is decent, and certainly more inspired than the similar '90s X-Men set. The one figure I really wish had been replaced by someone else is Cable. DST had already done two versions before this set, and this version of Cable doesn't hold a candle to the recent Series 32 version. I wasn't exactly clamoring for another Deadpool either, but I can at least understand that a lot of collectors missed out on the Wave 28 version. As for Domino and Feral, I have no qualms with them being included.

One of the drawbacks to boxsets like this is that the figures generally don't sport the same level of detail and accessories you'll find in the general series. That's true to an extent here. Deadpool lacks the swappable masks of the original version. It's obvious that a lot of the components are being reused from other figures, be it Feral's hair piece or the same set of gloves shared by three of the four figures. In a few spots details are painted rather than sculpted on. Cable in particular is crammed with a lot of random reused pieces that don't entirely fit well as a whole. But compared to some sets where the figures are simply generic bodies with painted details, this set could have been much worse.

Paint application can be pretty spotty with Minimates sometimes. I'm happy with how all of these turned out aside from Domino. She has a nice, glossy black to her costume that stands out well, but the white trim on her legs is extremely sloppy and haphazard. DST probably should have stuck to a less shiny black finish for her legs so that the white would have shown up better.

In the end, there are flaws here, but X-Force fans should be pleased with the set nonetheless. Cannonball and Shatterstar are coming to Toys R Us in a couple months, so this is a nice way to get the X-Force roster started.

Cyberman Leader 12" Figure

Doctor Who Underground Toys 12 Inch Scale Figure Classic Cyberman Leader Review

I had originally bought the 5" Pandorica model and was disappointed that the open mask cannot be closed so I knew then I had to have one like this. The disappointment here was that nothing opens. But it is a nice showpiece to go along with my collection. And the nice thing about cybermen is that you can have several different versions and it's still appropriate for the collection. I was also pleasantly surprised that there is rubber between the plastic silver armor pieces and over the joints. But along with my disappointment over nothing opening is that the arms and legs have VERY limited range of motion (cannot be seated or raise the arms above the head). No it doesn't speak. And I know it's a cyber*man* but whenever I look at it I think of a female who did her duty for Queen and country! (I'm embarrassed to say I still tear up at that!) True Whovian Doctor Who fans will understand. :0) NOTE: One caveat is the absolutely ridiculous practice that BBC/character-options.co.uk has of wiring in their products. Some day a child or pet will choke to death on the sharp wires (some of them very small) used to wire these products into the box. We already own the product and this is so frustrating and dangerous it takes away much of the fun of receiving these gifts. If you have children or pets be very careful. And write to have BBC and character-options stop this practice.

Hasbro Baby Alive Wets & Wiggles African American Doll Review

I bought this baby alive for my daughter, my niece and my neighbors daughter, they just love this doll she drinks her bottle and kicks her feet to let u know she is wet. I bought the original baby alive last year the one that eats her own baby food that was a disaster becaue my daughter put real food in her that i didn't know about it must have been in her mouth for a long time because it produced a foul order, anyway the doll was thrown in trash, but this new one wets n wiggles is perfect no food just water.

Hasbro Marvel Superhero Squad Exclusive Collectible Box Set Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Savage Frost Giant, Marvels Enchantress Loki Review

My little guys love the Super Hero Squad and play with them constantly. Very durable and there is a great variety. The biggest problem i have is with all the 3rd party sellers on Amazon jacking up the price. $35 plus $9 for shipping? Are you kidding me? This product is $23 at Toys R US right now with free shipping. Just remember, there are so many different versions of these characters that you don't have to pay the inflated prices. Unless you are a collector and need something specific, Toys R US or Hasbro sells these toys at better prices.

LEGO Exo-Force Gate Assault Review

Aside Bionicle, I haven't purchased any LEGOs in quite some time-- until EXO Force. The manga look at overall theme appeals to me. The Gate Assault here was my 8th and final EXO Force buy, completing the line until July. Aside the Sonic Phantom, this set is probably a resident shelf warmer at your local TRU.

The Gate Assault has 3 mobiles-- a land vehicle for the robots, a humanoid EXO mecha for the robots, an "air" humanoid EXO mecha for the humans, and then a gate to prevent the robots from breaking in to.

The robot land vehicle is a standard vehicle with nothing too exciting or flashy about it. It can hold 2 of the robots-- one to drive, and one to man the battling gun type turret built on top. It's a sturdy Lego vehicle, but like I said, nothing special.

The robot EXO mecha is an acceptable build. Although built similar to the #7711 Sentry or #7708 Uplink, it features dark red colors and nice armor designs. The shoulder, color, and arsenal are different from the other similar sets, however.

Same goes for the human's EXO mecha. It's another slighly similar build to the sets mentioned above, with the same differences, accept this one has some nice wing-like obtrusions, and a windshield. Both mecha have a cockpit to fit 1 minifigure.

The gate is a regular build, complete with a few turrets built into the sides and above the gate itself. There is a spring-loaded projecile that fires when the door is open (it has to hit the latch to fire) which makes it an inovative piece. But aside that, it is pretty dormant. It IS a wall, after all.

Every set in the EXO Force line includes a small sheet of decals with instructions on where to put them. Being a tad of a perfectionist, I spent a great deal of time trying to put them on flawlessly-- if you purchase this set for a little one, he or she may want your help. I personally like the challenge. Just don't fudge up, there are no extra decals.

I feel this set is a bit more expensive than for what you get. The main bread and butter of the line are the mecha, which go for about half the price of this. I have mixed reactions now that I've completed the line. Buy this if you're going to complete the line, or know why you want it. It's not a great example of the EXO Force line by itself, but can be fun with some of the other mecha.
