Purchased in size medium our 8 year old son who is on the smaller side of his age group and they are a perfect fit and I would expect them to work fine for the next year. These will be used for mountain biking year round on the various Florida trails. There is an adjustable swimming short style waste strap for additional adaptability. It's always a challenge sizing children's sportswear sight unseen so I would recommend ordering the appropriate size based on the sizing charts and one size up with the intention of returning one of the pairs after fitting. The quality overall is top notch and the padding appears to be better quality and thickness than my $50.00 Pearl Izumi Quest Cycling Shorts which are very popular on Amazon.

The MSRP is $70,00 and I paid approximately 1/2 of that and feel that they are an outstanding value.
