Saganami: Manticoran Fleet Box 2 Review
I don't play the SITS game, but I've been reading the Honor Harrington books and came across these minis online. I bought a few because they looked well crafted and were cast to relative scale as described in the books. I thought it'd be neat to have a tangible size comparison of the various ships and thought they might even be cool enough to display. The detail is on the high side of what you'd expect from the pictures and is actually pretty nice for pewter. Most starships in the Honorverse have the same general design and tend to look identical except for the size, but these do a good job of showing the detail of gunports and communication arrays and they are great for a size comparison. Want perspective of just how big the Q-ship was next to HMS Fearless from the first book, Astra's minis will bring it home. They are ok for display. Since they tend to look alike and most are very small (less than an inch in length) they probably won't mean much to someone unfamiliar with the Honorverse though.
King William Superdreadnought: Of all the minis this one looks coolest in the photos. It's huge relative to the others. So big they saw fit to send it in three pieces. You might think the pieces would fit securely together or come with some adhesive to make them stick. You'd be wrong. You don't even get instructions. Of course, a little superglue and you're on your way, unfortunately, the pieces I got didn't line up perfectly. I had to take a metal file to sand down some excess pewter just to get them to fit closely, but you can still tell it's three pieces that were put together. This is a big ship, but not so big they couldn't have cast it as a solid piece. I can only guess there is some game function for having it in three pieces. If not, then Astra is just cheap.
Another gripe: one of the ships I got was not completely formed. It was 95% there, but there was an easy to catch defect on the end of one of the cruisers. Given the issues with the Superdreadnought I can't say how good Astra's quality control is.
In summary, if you're buying these for the game I'd say they make neat tokens although they are a bit pricey. If you're buying them for display or just for a fun size comparison like I did they might still be worth it to you.
