SainSmart Leonardo R3 Starter Kit for Arduino (1602CLD + Prototype Mini Breadboard + HC-SR04 included) With Tutorial Instruction Manual on Basic Arduino Projects Review

Sainsmart has several of these starter kits and I recommend one of the smaller kits for a beginner because there are so many sensors and projects included that I probably won't use them all and will likely be buying other components later. I used the Ubuntu repository Arduino IDE download, the updated version included Leonardo code. A little reading was needed but once I got started I had very little trouble uploading example code with LEDs flashing to the sensor inputs and even the 1602 display operating in a few days. Soldering required. The Sainsmart documentation was not well written, some of their example code was just plain wrong, but their pdf files were helpful in showing how to wire up copmponents. IDE examples were much better for learning code and general use. You should definitely install the IDE before buying anything so you'll be ready to go when the kit arrives.
